Description: Millard South High School is seeking a visionary and experienced leader to be a Custodial Department Head. This full-time, 12-month position calls for a dynamic individual ready to guide and inspire our custodial team to excellence.

General Summary: This position must achieve and maintain the highest possible standards of custodial responsibilities. The Custodian III position is responsible for maintaining the appropriate amount of supplies while ensuring appropriate budgetary guidelines are being followed. The department head is responsible for ensuring the staff of approximately 14 custodians are following appropriate guidelines, working as expected, and that safety and cleaning protocols are being followed. Weekend and activity scheduling are part of the responsibilities of this position. This position requires routine manual labor associated with daily cleaning and security. and the safe operation of District facilities. Employees in this job classification perform various duties requiring moderate physical strength. Typical routine duties include, but are not restricted to: cleaning education facilities. classrooms, lecture halls, study halls, cafeterias, libraries, gymnasiums, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, athletic areas, equipment rooms, hallways, common areas, outside, and other building and office areas. Additionally, this position requires performing tasks associated with the prescribed housekeeping program. Demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills and relationships with co-workers, staff, students, and the general public are requirements for this position.
Essential Job Functions: 1. General Duties: (70%) Ensures appropriate workforce scheduling for weekends and activities. Train, motivate, and monitor the workforce. First fifty feet - both inside and outside - show well for the public, students, and staff. Changes plastic bags, cleans restrooms, classrooms, chalkboards and whiteboards, erasers, pencil sharpeners, walls, ceiling, and light fixtures, glass, blinds, and draperies. Ensures the monthly PMs, safety inspections, monthly supply orders, and other reports are completed accurately and on time. Keeps restrooms supplied with paper products, soap, and other items.
2. Performs successful operation and training associated with the housekeeping floor care program, including: dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, neutralizing, waxing, spot cleaning, stain and gum removal,l and shampooing of floors (15%) 3. Additional Duties (15%): Dusts horizontal and vertical surfaces. Page 2 of 3: Keeps ceiling tiles in place. Provides services for special activities. Identifies and reports items requiring repair actions. Works closely with office staff and fellow workers to provide feedback on building maintenance actions. Qualifications:
1. Education Level: High School diploma or equivalent
2. Other Requirements: Ability to provide clear direction through verbal and written communications, Basic cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. Ability to organize. Computer proficiency and effective communication skills. Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength. Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment. Ability to establish and maintain acceptable working relations with supervisors, staff, students, the general public, and fellow workers. Work overtime as required. Presents a neat and clean appearance. Ability to complete required training. Ability to work from a ladder and scaffolding
. 3. Preferred: Able to perform assigned duties with minimum supervision. Demonstrates knowledge of proper usage of products and equipment. Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
